Atalanta Draw, Ajax Defeat Sion in Conference League Play-Off First Legs

Atalanta were held to a draw, while Ajax defeated Sion in the first legs of the UEFA Conference League qualifying play-offs on Thursday evening local time.

Italian club Atalanta were forced to settle for a goalless draw against Israeli side Hapoel Tel Aviv at Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, according to UEFA records.

The result means both teams still have an equal chance of advancing to the Conference League league phase, with the second leg to be played next week.

The second-leg Conference League qualifying play-off between Atalanta and Hapoel Tel Aviv will take place at DVTK Stadium in Miskolc, Hungary, on Friday (August 28) at 1:00 a.m. WIB.

Meanwhile, Dutch club Ajax defeated Swiss side FC Sion 4–2 in the first leg of the Conference League qualifying play-off at Tourbillon Stadium in Sion.

Ajax secured the victory through goals from Julian Brandt, Marcos Leonardo, Tolu Arokodare, and Davy Klaassen, while Sion responded with goals from Franck Surdez and Ilyas Chouaref.

The victory means Ajax only need a draw in the second leg to advance to the Conference League league phase. Sion, on the other hand, must win by at least three goals to progress to the final round.

Ajax will host Sion in the second leg of the Conference League qualifying play-off at Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam on Friday (August 28) at 1:00 a.m. WIB.
